Ashfall Wardens
Ashfall Wardens drops you into a slowly dying continent where you recruit wardens, each with a distinct combat role and a surprisingly well-written backstory. Combat is turn-based but quick, and the real depth comes from how you pair abilities between characters. A shield that also reflects damage becomes a different tool depending on who stands next to it.
The story is the main reason I stuck with it. Side quests actually tie back into the central plot, and a couple of choices early on noticeably shifted how later characters treated me. For a mobile RPG that is rarer than it should be.
My one complaint is pacing in the middle chapters, where you grind a little to keep up with enemy levels. Once you get past that stretch, the back half is excellent and the final boss sequence is genuinely memorable.
What we liked
- Deep party-pairing combat
- Choices that carry across the story
- Strong writing for a mobile RPG
