Reading the Weather in Tideborn Empires
For my first few hours in Tideborn Empires I treated trade routes like straight lines between ports. Ships kept vanishing in storms and I could not work out why my economy stalled. The answer was sitting in the weather panel the whole time.
Every region has a forecast, and storms follow predictable seasonal patterns. Once I started routing convoys around the known storm belts, my losses almost disappeared. It costs a little extra travel time, but a slow ship beats a sunken one.
The deeper trick is staggering your departures. If you send everything at once, a single bad storm can gut your whole fleet. Spacing shipments out means a disaster only ever costs you one convoy.
None of this is explained well in the tutorial, which is my main gripe with the game. But once you internalise the weather, Tideborn Empires turns into a calm, rewarding logistics puzzle that I keep returning to.
